DANZIG MENACED

NAZI COUP FEARED

FORCES CONCENTRATING

COMMISSIONER SENT FOR

INQUIRY BY LEAGUE

By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received July 2, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, July T

A message from Geneva states that the Council of 'the League of Nations has decided to discuss the situation in Danzig owing to its gravity. Mr. Eden has asked Mr. Sean Lester, the League's High Commissioner in Danzig, to go to Geneva.

The Daily Mail's Geneva correspondent says Mr. Lester has been summoned ostensibly to explain an incident in which the captain of the German cruiser Leipzig, when visiting Danzig, was reported to have slighted him by failing to pay a courtesy call.

This coincided with newspaper attacks 011 Mr. Lester both in Danzig and in Berlin.

Swiss journals, however, suggest there is a more sensational reason for the summons, namely, fears of an imminent Nazi coup in Danzig. Large concentrations of German forces are reported to be occurring on the eastern frontiers. The "Warsaw correspondent of the Manchester Guardian says Mr. Lester's sudden summons to Geneva has caused consternation in Nazi circles in Danzig, which did not expect so quick a reaction from the League to recent events in the city, which aro causing alarm in Poland. The Kurjer Warszawski says: "A sudden blow to Danzig would endanger Poland's very existence."
