ABYSSINIAN PEOPLE
SIR S. BARTON'S VIEW
ITALIANS' DIFFICULTIES
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received July 2, 8.25 p.m.) LONDON, July 2
The British Minister to Abyssinia. Sir Sidney Barton, returned to London to-day. Interviewed by a representative of tho News Chronicle he declared that nobody knew tho real state of affairs in Abyssinia.
"Actually the Italians occupy only two narrow strips of the country," said Sir Sidney. "They cannot be said to be occupying it in the true sense at all. The country as a whole has not submitted." The diplomatic correspondent of the Manchester Guardian says news which has reached London confirms tho reports that tho Italians aro having serious difficulties in Abyssinia. There is, of course, no general or organised rally of Abyssinians, but bands of them are fiercely resisting the Italians, even if only sporadically. Severe fighting is reported to have occurred in tho neighbourhood of Ankoniar in which some Italian officers were killed. Even in Addis Ababa tho position of the Italians is not altogether secure, and outside tho town there is no safety for them except in strong detachments.
ITALIAN CAPTURE
TOWN NOT IN KENYA
STATEMENT BY MINISTER
British Wireless
RUGBY, July 1
The Foreign Under-Secretary, Viscount Cranborno, was asked in the House of Commons to-day -whether his attention had been called to the occupation by Italians of Moyalo, t a town shown as being in Kenya Colony. Lord Cranborno replied that there were two places called Moyalo, one in Kenya and the other in Abyssinia. It might be that tho Italian forces had occupied Moyalo in Abyssinia. There was 110 reason whatever to suppose that they had occupied Moyalo in Kenya, which was, moreover, a military post.
