SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

MATCHES IN SECOND ROUND

MOUNT ALBERT AND RICHMOND

Tho third scries ol matches in the second round of the Auckland Pugby League's senior championship will bo decided at C'arlaw Park to-morrow, the principal attraction being the name between Mount Albert and Richmond. The championship at present is at a most interesting stage. Mount Albert is leading by one point from Richmond and Ponsonby, while Devon port and .Maris! are all equal, two points behind the leaders. Manukau is three points in arrears of Mount Albert.

Considerable interest will centre in the various sanies to-morrow and with the grounds likely to lie on (lie heavy side I hi' scoring should lie fairly close. Richmond has played fine foot ball in recent matches and tinder reasonable conditions should lie difficult to defeat. Mount Albert is a solid team, but its combination of late has no! been nearly so good as tbut of Richmond. However, under wet conditions Mount Albert should cause Richmond considerable worry I'onsonhy and Manukau will meet in the curtain-raiser and the former will lie decidedly handicapped if weather conditions are unfavourable. The Ponsonby backs are always dangerous, but t hey will face a solid defence to-morrow. The chief match on the No. '2 ground will he contested by Marist arid Devonport. The former has shown improved form and a good game is anticipated. As a cur-tain-raiser the much-improved City side will play Newton. This mutch also should provide fast, open football. Lower grade competitions will lie continued, following aro the teams; — PONSONBY Senior Grade.— Hush, Holland. Kay, Riley, Jones, Ilailoran, Leatherbarrow. Midrlleton, lilood, Morgan, Davis, J. NEW ZEALAND SELECTORS APPOINTMENT OF THREE A motion ti, rescind a previous resolution appointing Mr. A. T McClymont sole selector of the New Zealand team was narrowly carried at last evening's meeting of tho New Zealand Rugby League. Mr H. Kyle (Taranaki), in supporting tho motion, said that lie did not favour tho delegation of such power to a sole selector, which was without precedent. He knew of no national sports representatives ever selected by one official. He had no personal grudge against (lie appointment of Mr. McClymont, but he was jf the opinion that the principle was wrong.

The chairman, Mr. ('. A. Sneddon, said that it was a serious question. At the last meeting of the council it was decided that a sole solectoi he appointed and subsequently Mr. McClymont secured the appointment.

The motion was carried by five votes to four.

A resolution proposed by Mr. W. J. Davidson (Canterbury), that three selectors should be appointed for the New Zealand team and submit its personnel to tho New Zealand League before publication was carried.

A request from the West Const League for a guarantee of expenses incurred in tho Northern Union Cup match against Canterbury at Christchurch to-morrow was declined. The secretary was instructed to inform the West Coast League that the game could not be considered a trial fixture when travelling expenses would have to he met. After a keen discussion it was decided to grant dispensation regarding replacements in the Canterbury v. West Coast match to-morrow.
