SLAUGHTERING METHODS
Sir, —A letter from a "Cattle Farmer" in Wednesday's paper surely requires immediate attention. The writer puts before the public, quite simply and plainly, a state of things which when realised should not bo permitted in any civilised country. It is horrible and brutal. As wo are obliged to kill, surely it should bo done with the least possible suffering to the unhappy animals. Thero are several more humane methods I know. Stunning and then killing would be preferable, or using a humane killer, a gun, invented some few years ago, for the purpose. Possibly too few men are employed at the work, and it has to be got clone somehow. But something should l>e done about it, if we are decent people. L. L\ Knight.
