TEST CRICKET

MATCH WITH INDIANS

SMALL SCORE BY VISITORS ENGLISH BATSMEN ALSO FAIL By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Eeceived June 28, SJS p.m.) LONDON, June 27 The first test cricket match between England and the" visiting Indian team was commenced at Lord's ground to-day in fine weather. The wicket, which had been wet, was drying under the influence of the sun. There was an attendance of 15,000. Allen, the English captain, won the toss and put the Indians in to bat after an inspection of the wicket. The visitors opened very carefully and were doing fairly well until Allen took three quick wickets and Robins bowled Hindlekar with a "googly" delivery. The fall of these wickets completely changed the aspect of the ganie from no wickets for 66 runs to four for 66. From then on the Indians were forced to struggle hard for runs. However, Vizianagram batted courageously. The English wickets fell more rapidly than those of the Indians. Amar Singh bowled very fast, his deliveries swinging dangerously, while Nissar made the ball move away to leg in a deceptive manner.

Giinblett again exposed his fault of trying to hook the ball before he had secured a proper sight of it, the result being that he was cleverly caught. Mitchell was bowled off his body, and the dismissal of Turnbull and Wyatt presented Amar Singh with four successive wickets. Leyland defied a well-balanced attack for two hours before being dismissed by an over-pitched delivery.
