INSPECTION BY KING
YEOMEN OF THE GUARD PRESENCE OF QUEEN MARY British Wireless RUGBY, June 2t> A picturesque ceremony took place today in the grounds of Buckingham Palace when the King, wearing the fulldress uniform of Colonel-in-Chief of the Welsh Guards, inspected the Royal Bodyguard known as the Yeomen of the Guard, who, in their scarlet and gold uniforms, are usually on duty at the Tower of London.
Queen Mary, from the Palace balcony, was an interested spectator of the ancient ceremony, at which the King presented the captain and other officers with ebony sticks banded with gold and silver.
The King addressed the men and expressed the pride ho felt at the presence of Her Majesty at the annual inspection. Ho thanked the bodyguard for the part they took in the ceremonies connected with the lying-in-state and funeral of King George. After mentioning that most of them had attended his father 011 many occasions, His Majesty recalled that the Royal Bodyguard could trace its traditions through 451 years, and said he was confident that those proud traditions would continue to be worthily upheld.
