AUSTRALIAN SEA ROUTE STRONGER AIR FORCE NAVAL PRECAUTIONS By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received Juno 28, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, June 27 The Singapore correspondent of the Sun-Herald news service says the* authorities are closely watching developments in the trade dispute between Japan and Australia. Important steps are to be announced very soon for the defence of the Australian sea route. A new Royal 'Air Force squadron of longdistance bombers is expected from Europe shortly. This will bring up Singapore's air strength to four squadrons. A special committee is preparing precautions against gas air raids on Singapore City. , . Some authorities predict that Britain will station a battle cruiser squadron on Singapore before the end of 1937, to co-operate with the Australian, China, New Zealand and Indies squadrons. Local naval men consider that Singapore would not he fully effective without a battle fleet based on the port.
