FATALITY NEAR ASHBURTON
[by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCIIUKCJI. Sundu.v
Approaching the Hinds railway station at 6.50 this evening, the Timaru excursion train struck and killed a man who was walking on the line. Ho was Mr. George Wright, married, aged about 45, of Hinds, who was employed as a road roller driver on the Main South Road deviation near Hinds.
The engine-driver of the train said that deceased appeared from the sido of the track when the train was slowing down about three-quarters of a mile south of the station. He walked on to the line about three engine lengths in front of the train, and was struck before the driver was able to stop the train.
