PRISONER MARRIED
LEFT CELL FOR CEREMONY A man who was imprisoned at the city watchhouse, Adelaide, awaiting trial 011 a charge of theft, was allowed to leave the cells to be married.- After the ceremony he returned to his cell. Following a robbery at the home of Ernest Albert Rugless, at Anzac Highway, Glenelg, police made a surprise visit to the home of Edward Cowan, aged 24, in Anzac Highway. Cowan was taken to the city watchhouse. and soon afterwards the police raided the home of a girl at Glenelg. The police state that Cowan and the girl had been planning to marry for some time, and had fixed a date. Their plans were interrupted by his arrest The girl, after conferring with Cowan at the watchhouse, interviewed the principal of the women police (Mrs. Wileher). After certain formalities, Cowan was temporarily released and escorted to the Central Mission, where he was married to the girl by the Rev. S. Forsyth, police officers acting as witnesses.
It is understood that the bride came from Victoria 12 months ago and if well educated.
