STRUGGLE FOR LIFE
MAN WITH BROKEN LEG
A desperate fight for life was made by Elstori Barnett, of Gladstone, when heavy seas, dashing him against the rockc, broke a leg above the ankle, says a Sydney newspaper. Barnett was fishing alone from the rocks at Hat Head, Lower -Macleay. He was swept off his feet by a wave and hurled to the rocks. He was struggling to regain his feet and scramble to 6afety when another wave jammed his left leg between two boulders. The leg snapped above the ankle. With a superhuman effort Barnett, although suffering agony, dragged himself out of reach of the waves. He managed to • drag himself to the top of the 150 ft. cliff and then commenced to make his laborious and painful way through the scrub in search of assistance. Meanwhile, his father, becoming alarmed at his continued absence, set out to search, and found his son still dragging himself along in an exhausted condrtion. Barnett was later admitted to the Macleay District Hospital.
