WOMAN KILLED
SERVICE CAR OVERTURNS
FALLS 20 FEET. TO BEACH
WEST COAST ACCIDENT
[by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] GRBYMOIJTII, Sunday A woman was killed and three other people were injured in an accident on the coastal road on Saturday evening, when a Gibbs servic6 car, while proceeding from Greymouth to Westport with six passengers, left the narrow strip of road at Seventeen Mile Bluff, near Barry town, and fell 20ft. over a bank to the beach. The victims were:— Killed Mrs. Martha Allitt, aged 52, wife of Mr. Eustace Allitt, Lower Hutt, Wellington. Injured Mr. William Veale, fisherman, single, of the trawler Waitohi, severe wound in back and spinal injuries. Mr. John Rvall, of Barrytown, chairman of the Grey County Council, scalp wound. Mr. Frank Scarlett, of Westport, injuries to hand. The driver, Mr. Keith Goodman, and the other passengers suffered from shock. The car, which overturned in the fall, came to rest close to the sea. Mrs. Allitt was pinned beneath the vehicle and suffered severe injuries to the head and body. She was making the journey to Westport to visit her married daughter. Visibility at the time of the accident was very poor owing to exceptionally heavy rain.
