FURTHER EVIDENCE INQUIRIES BY REPORTERS WOUNDED MAN'S STORY By Telecrnph—Press Association—Copyright (Received Juno 18, 8.20 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Juno 18 The Royal Commission which is inquiring into the shooting of Superintendent J. Brophy, of the Victorian Criminal Investigation Department, in Jvoyal Park, near Parkville, on May 22, sat again to-day. Mr. Justice Macindoe presided. Further evidence was given by reporters. Robert Lawson, of the Age, produced shorthand notes of a statement which ho said had been made by Detective-Inspector McKerral on the morning following the shooting. Witness said ho was confident that the statement by Mr. MeKerral which had been produced in Court was not identical with tho one issued to the press after the shooting. Reginald Warren, of the. Sun Pictorial, said lie interviewed Mr. Brophy in tho hospital. The wounded official said it was not true, as stated in the Herald, that ho was decoyed to Royal Park, and that ho was not shot there. Witness said that Mr. Brophy added: "1 went to Royal Park on an official mission. 1 was standing alone holding a revolver in my left hand, which became dampwith perspiration. 1 mado an attempt to change it to my right hand and tho weapon exploded twice, wounding mo in tho right forearm and cheek." Warren said ho asked Mr. Brophy why tho revolver went off twice and he replied: "They are finely set." The hearing was adjourned.
