SOUTH AFRICA
I ATTITUDE OF BRITAIN British Wireless RUGBY, June 17 The position of the South African protectorates was the subject of a question in the House of Commons today to the Under-Secretary for the Dominions, the Marquess of Hartington. In reply he recalled the aide-memoire published after conversations between the Dominions Secretary and the Prime Minister of the Union, General HertZ og,' last year. This stated that the policy both of the British and South African Governments for the next few vears should be directed to bringing about a situation in which, if a transfer were to become a matter of practical politics, it could be effected with the full acquiescence of the populations concerned. Lord Hartington added: "This still represents the policy of the British Government, and I have nothing to add to the statement."
