AIR SERVICE PASSENGER VETERAN OF GABRIEL'S GULLY IBY TKLKGHAI'H —OWN OORHKSFONDKNT] DUXEDIX. Thursday The oldest passenger so far carried by the air service between Dunedin and Blenheim since its inauguration left to-day in the aeroplane Kotuku for Palmerston North. He is .Mr. William Ayson, of Waikaka, who is 93 years of age. Mr. Ayson arrived in Otngo by the Royal Albert in 1853, five years after the Philip Laing had landed the first settlers in this city, and he later proceeded to Gabriel's Gully when thfl gold rush took place. Mr. Ayson took a prominent part in the recent anniversary celebrations at Lawrence in connection with the finding of in the gully. Mr. Ayson said this morning that 0 had never before been alongside an aeroplane, h■ 11 had son them in ' 0 air. He had seen so many changes in transport in this roimtrv during ' last 80-odd years that he had n° f ears concerning flying.
