SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP SECOND ROUND TO-MORROW MANUKAU TO PLAY DEVONPORT I he second round of the senior championship of the Auckland Rugby League will be commenced at Carlaw Park tomorrow. The competition is at present in a most interesting stage, and the results of to-morrow's matches will have a decided bearing on the final honours. Ponsonby is at present one point in the lead from Devon port, Mount Albert and Manukau are two points behind the leaders, and Richmond three points. The staging of matches to-morrow between Manukau and Devon port and Ponsonby and Richmond on the No. 1 ground should therefore prove of exceptional interest. Manukau has been a popular team since joining the senior ranks, and has a large following. It is the most improved side in the championship, and should extend Devonport to the utmost. The forwards of both teams appear to he fairly evenly matched, while in recent matches the Manukau rearguard has played good football. A great tussle should result, with Manukau favoured in many rjuariers. The leading team. Ponsonby, will be faced with strong opposition by Richmond in the curtain-raiser, and this game should .'ilbo be fast and open. The chief game on tho No. 2 ground, which will be played by Mount Albert and Newton, is likely to be evenly contested. As a curtain-raisir City will try conclusions with Marist. The improved form shown by City in the last two matches should again carry it to victory. Lower grade competitions will be continued. Fol lowing are tho teams:— PONSONBY Senior Grade.—Paton. Jones, Kay. Payne, Riley, W. Stockier, Ilalloran. Morgan, J. Stoekley, Davis, Blood, Middleton, Holland. Lent herb arrow. Carter. NON-REPLACEMENT RULE NORTHERN UNION CUP Requests for dispensation from the nonreplacement, rule were received from the Auckland and "Wellington Rugby Leagues at last evening's meeting of the New Zealand League Council. It was decided to appiove the applications, as the games in which the two leagues were concerned were in tlie nature of trials for the selection of the New Zealand team to play England. The chairman, Mr, C. A. Snedden, said that it was evident the two leagues desired to replace injured players. As nothing was at stake in the nature of a trophy, he saw no reason why the request should not be gi anted. The Canterbury Rugby League wrote appealing for a match against tho Englishmen on Saturday. July 25, instead of August 1, as arranged in the itinerary. The secretary, Mr. W. 0. Carlaw, said that, as the visitors did not arrive in New Zealand until July 35, it would be impossible to accede t;> the request. Permission was granted to the West Coast League to play Canterbury for tho Northern Union Challenge Cup on July 4 at Christchurch. Arrangements for South Auckland to play Northland at Whangarei on July 4 were approved. A request for the attendance of two members of the executive was left in the hands of the chairman. Charges for admission to Carlaw Fark for th" North and South island fixture on July 11 were fixed as follows:—Ground, men Is (id, ladies Is; grandstand. Is; unemployed, ground.
