CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

CONGRESS IN WELLINGTON Advice that King Edward VIII. had consented to be patron of the 14th congress of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire, to be held in Wellington in October, and that the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, had accepted an invitation to be honorary president and to open the congress, was received at a meeting of the council of the Auckland chamber yesterday. The main body of United Kingdom delegates-would arrive by the Aorangi at the end of September, and would leave Wellington for Australia on October 30. The secretary, Dr. E. P. Neale, reported that the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, has consented to the tendering of a civic At Home to delegates in Auckland on October 28. In reply to an inquiry from the Associated Chambers of Commerce as to what was considered the best method of control of debt collecting agencies, it was decided to advise that the opinion was held that, for the present, registration and licensing and the exaction of a fidelitv bond should he sufficient. Until that was proved inadequate, it was not thought proposals by a Wellington company advocating trust accounts and special audits were necessary, as they might prove very costly to some organisations. It, was decided to suggest to the Department of Industries and Commerce that an exhibit of ghee butter be incorporated in a New Zealand exhibit at the forthcoming Lucknow exhibition.
