TEIAL MATCH DRAWN G. 0. ALLEN'S CAPTAINCY WILL LEAD TEST TEAM By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON, June 16 The trial match at Lord's which was played for the purpose of selecting the English side to play India on June 27 was restricted to two days owing to rain, and was drawn. In reply to the North's first innings total of 321, South compiled 363. M. J. Turnbull, the Glamorgan captain, scored 106.

Critics agree that the trial match, which ended in an honourable but somewhat barren draw, did not reveal much to assist the selectors. To-day'u "highlight" was Turnbull's quick-footed and impressive century.

G. 0. Allen, although he was not conspicuous in batting or bowling, revealed sound generalship ill leading South, and his selection is announced for the captaincy in the first test match against India. His performance in that match will undoubtedly influence his chances of being appointed to the captaincy of England for the Australian tour this year.
