WHALE ENTERS RIVER

SENSATION NEAR SYDNEY STRANDED ON MUD RATS SYDNEY. June 17 A 40ft. whale swam into Richmond River to-day and caused a sensation when it collided with the ferry cables at Broadwater while the ferryboat was in midstream, causing it to rock violently. Broadwater is 16 miles from the rivermouth. The whale became stranded on mud flats, and attempts made to shoot it failed, the bullets making no impression. The whale later returned to deep water and was last seen heading for the sea.
