METAL IN THE MODE

Bright metal is returning to favour for decorative use in the home, and the radiance of brass and copper lends charm and distinction to many furnishing schemes. \ Brass and copper wares of all countries and ages are still extant, while old designs arc constantly copied by modern manufacturers. Those who have patience can often find attractive old bits of metal in the shops—sometimes discoloured and out of condition, but quite easily made bright again. When taken homo, the prize should lie washed carefully with soap in hot water, wiped with a soft rag and dried in hot sawdust. Its complexion should then bo restored to life and beauty by means of one of the excellent metal polishes now sold.. Brass and copper should always bo kept polished, but little trouble is necessary to keep both metals in perfect condition. Damp is their worst enemy, brass being prone to blacken, while copper is susceptible to verdigris.
