BEER THROUGH WINDOW
HOTEL PORTER FINED When Constable Bartlett turned the corner of Victoria Street into High Street at 1.45 a.m. on May 8 ho saw a parcel being handed from a window of the Central Hotel to a man on the footpath, and as a result a junior porter in the hotel, Roderick Barnes, pleaded guilty in the Police Court yesterdav to supplying liquor after hours. Sub-Inspector Fox said tho parcel contained six bottles of beer, which bad been sold by defendant during the absence of the head night porter. When the licensee was informed next morning defendant was dismissed. Defendant, who stated he had since been on sustenance, was fined £1 and costs.
