NO IMMEDIATE CHANGE RAIN DEVELOPING IN SOUTH The weather report and forecast fo r New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows:—An intense anti-cyclone lies centrally over the Dominion. A shallow > depression is located over the western Tasman Sea and is moving slowly castward. The forecast is for light souths easterly to north-easterly winds, at first north of Cape Egmout and Castlepoint, but gradually tending more northerly and freshening; northerly to northwesterly elsewhere and moderate to strong, a change to the west or southwest developing later in the southern part of the South Island. Seas in NewZealand waters, considerable southerly swell at first between Hawke's Bay and the East Cape and rough about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising south of Cape Egmont. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate northerly winds, freshening and gradually changing to the south-west shortly in the southern portion. Seas slight to moderate, but increasing. A few scattered showers are likely at first on the east coast between Hawke's Bay and the East Cape, otherwise fine, but shortly becoming unsettled and rain developing in western and southern districts of the South Island. A cold night to-night, but milder to-morrow.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FINE, WITH CLOUD INCREASING The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald Inst evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate easterlv to north-easterly winds freshening somewhat. The weather is likely to be fine but cloud increasing to-morrow. Teml peratures cold to-night, but milder later. Seas slight to moderate.

YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—Fine sunny weather again prevailed yesterday, and the light breeze blowing varied between south and south-east. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 55 degrees. After rising; to 30.43 in. by mid-day, the barometer fell slightly during the afternoon and then remained steady. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 30.451n, Midnight, Thursday .. .. 30.481n. Wellington.—The day was brilliantly fine with a clear sky and only a very light northerly breeze. The morning was cold, a frost being recorded. The minimum temperature on Thursday night, was 37 degrees, the maximum yesterday being 51 degrees. Rainfall at Kelburn to 9 a.m. was o.o"in. Christchurch. —The day was fine, but chilly with a moderate north-easterly breeze in the morning, freshening in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 49.5 degrees. The barometer was falling slowly last evening when the reading was 30 20in. Dunedin.—The day was dull except for a short period in the early afternoon. The morning temperature was cold, but the thermometer rose to 55 degrees later. The barometer fell throughout the day.
