ASSAULT CHARGES

Friday A sequel to the discovery of a you man. in an unconscious condition, on tho stops of Dr. W. Kishor's surgery at Timmarnnni on fclio morning of April 29 occurred in the Tauinarunui Police Court to-day, when Cyril Dunning Henderson, box factory worker, and Vernon MeMinn, labourer, were dialled before Messrs. W. Mends and W. Thomas, J.P.'s, with committing assault, causing actual bodily harm. Henderson, the man who was found unconscious, stated that he and McMinn were returning together from a party at Lower Rangaroa when McMinn and a man named Carter accused him of theft. McMinn struck him repeatedly

with an electric torch. He recovered in hospital, where ho remained for some weeks. He did not remember stabbing McMinn with a penknife. McMinn stated that be struck Henderson twice with bis fist. They closed, and he felt a pain in the back as if he had been stabbed. He drew out his torch and struck Henderson several times. He attempted to drag Henderson to his own home, but did not have sufficient strength, and lie saw Henderson walk away. McMinn later had his back attended to by Dr. A. B Sturtevant.

Both men were committed to the Supreme Court at Hamilton for trial. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £2O in each case.
