CONCLUDING DAY

FIELDS for to-morrow fine list of acceptances FOURTEEN in winter steeples fitzroy handicap divided Excellent acceptances have been received for the concluding day of the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting at Ellerslie to-morrow and the races have a" filled well with the exception 0 f the Orakei Hrfrdles, in which there are eight engaged. Owing to the largo number of acceptors, 34, the Fitzroy Handicap will be run in two divisions, each to be treated as a separate race. The stake for each division will be £275. The first division is to bo the seventh 'race and the second division the eighth race. The first event will start at 11.15 " A very gratifying feature of the acceptances is that tho loading events have drawn fine fields, there being 1-1 in tho Winter Steeplechase and 20 in the York Handicap. Form points to Billy Boy and "Forest Glow running prominently in tho Winter Steeplechase, in which neither is set a prohibitive task For his win in the Great Northern Steeplechase Billy Boy has been raised 81h. and comes in 41b. averse through Forest Glow, who lias been lifted -lib. On latest form and figures there should bo little to choose between them, although, ( if the track remains firm, the preference may lie for Billy York Handicap Fancies

Tho topweight, Valpeen has not started at the meeting. His latest form has a long way below his best, but he appears to have taken tome benefit from his recent racing and has come down in the weights as a result of his defeats. It is on tho cards that he may do better than in any of his previous races this winter. Thespis ghould go well in this company after lis race on the first day and other possibilities are Golden England, Windsor Lad, I'mtali and Gascille. The favourites may be Billy Boy, Forest Glow and Thespis. The York Handicap bears a very 'open aspect, as there are many capable milers engaged. As a result of their good form in the Cornwell Handicap on the first'day, On«» Whetu and Pakanui are sure to have/, many friends. The shorter distance should not be to the disadvantage of Pakanui. although it should not be overlooked t}iat One Whetu is also a good sprinter. Grateful, who won at a mile at To Rapa, will be making his first apoearance at the meeting and he should take coosiderable beating. Others who should add interest to the contest are Scotland, Con Fuoco, Tooley Street and Reroatu. Some who may find favour are Pakanui, Grateful, One Whetu and Con Fuoco. Acceptances:—
