PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB

BALL AT PETER PAN ] UNUSUAL DECORATIONS USED : The merry camaraderie of the hunting field and the sparkling brilliance of a successful ball, the freedom of the outdoors and the formality of the ballroom, the elusive tang of ferns and greenery mingled with the more delicate fragrance of flowers and perfumes brought a spirit of gaiety and merriment to the Pakuranga H'ilit Club ball held last evening in the Peter Pan Cabaret. Contrasting with the sophisticated glitter of lames, the shimmer of silks and the soft richness of velvets, tho decorations of the cabaret, in their bold effect and colours, made an unusual and artistic background. The orchestral dais was transformed with a neat bank of thick, evenlytrimmed manuka decorated with bows of scarlet ribbon, into a realistic brush fence, with small, jockey-mounted horses taking it in true hunting style. The central pillars were hidden behind rough, massed thicknesses of manuka starred with scarlet poinsottias, geraniums and bows of scarlet. Stepping out of a corner brilliantly green with the green of tho outdoors threaded with the scarlet of the hunting field, was a life-sized reproduction of an immaculate hunter, while before the buffet, transformed into a bank of greenery, with punga and ribbon ferns, nikau palms and lycopodium, stood a magnificent hound, rigidly pointing. Further reproductions of hunting hounds, following the scent and pointing, were placed here and there before masses of greenery and tubbed ferns. Arranged about the cabaret floor tables with tall vases of bright Iceland poppies and cyclamens added to the general brilliant effect, while the scarlet coats of the master and huntsmen and the green lapels of the male members added a further note of bright colour. Large clusters of inulti-col-oured balloons hanging from the coiling and between the masses of greenery gave a finishing touch of carnival festivitv, while the stirring music of olcl and "well-known" hunting choruses, such as "John Peel," "Tantivy" and Mrs. Astor's Horse," added to the sporting atmosphere. In the supper room two corners solidlv and entirely banked to the ceiling with punga ferns and nikau palms and soft ribbon ferns contrasted with the snowy whiteness of the tables, which were decorated with trailing fronds of maidenhair fern and many vases of cyclamen in their varying shades of rich pinks and reds while overhead festoons of greenery fell from the shaded lights. . , The guests were received by tiie miter of the hunt, Mr H.
