REPORTS OF MANAGERS Big River (Reefton).—Week ended May 27: Shift repairs:—The strf.ightening of the shaft below No. 1 intermediate level has been completed and the guides have been put in place in both winding compartments. At present we are engaged in cleaving No. 2 chamber. Repairs to No. 1 ktlit level are now completed. Repairs to dam an? nearing completion. Nevis Sluicing (Otago).—The wash-up in the main tail race has resulted in 920z. 12d\vt. of gold being won. Included in the wash-up are nine nuggets, varying in weight from ioz. to loz. Idwt, Before cleaning in No. 2 tail race, there will be a further week's sluicing, but it is not anticipated that there will be a great deal of sold won from this second wash-up. moat of the sluicing having been done into the No. 1. tail race. The claim is now well opened up for a favourable seiison next year. Mataki (Murchison).—Last week the dredge worked on a face of 420 ft in an average depth of 15ft, the yardage lifttd being 10,377 yards'. The dredge had n good run, but on Thursday the bottom started to j'ise and by the end of the week for a distance of 50ft in the bank, we were again lifting 3ft of pug.
