WOMEN POLICE
• GROWTH OF MOVEMENT ADOPTION IN DOMINION URGED [by telegraph—OWN' correspondent] DUNEDIN, Monday Stating that New Zealand would soon be tho only country without women police, tho president, Dr. SiedebergMcKinnon, speaking at the annual meeting of the Society for tho Protection of Women and Children, urged the need for the appointment of women police in the Dominion. "The movement is making headway everywhere," she said. "France and Poland aro both increasing their women police assistants, tho United States has policewomen in nearly every city, Australia is well supplied, and in South Australia alone there aro 14 female officers. China, Japan, Turkey and even Burma have all adopted this reform and tho work of the policewomen is much appreciated by the authorities. "It is not right that women and girls should have to tell thoir stories to men in sexual cases. If Britain and all her other Dominions have seen fit to institute this reform, surely it is time New Zealand followed."
