INCREASE IN MARRIAGES

AUCKLAND STATISTICS MORE BIRTHS THIS YEAR According to the vital statistics for May, there was a slight increase in births, deaths and marriages, as compared with the figures for the same month of last year. Births numbered 213 as against 210. while the total for the first five months of the year is 1124 as against 1032 for a similar period last year. A total of 160 deaths occurred, which is an increase of one over the figure for May, 1935. The number of deaths registered since the beginning of the year is 751, an increase of 24 over the first five months of last year.

The greatest increase was shown in the number of marriages registered, there being 210 as compared with 190 in May of last year, while for the fivemonths period there was a total this year of 1136 as against 959. Marriages by the registrar number 50 as against 37 in May .of last year, while the respective totals for the five-months periods ar» 241 and 165 respectively
