WOMAN SCIENTIST

FRENCH CABINET POST PRECEDENT PREDICTED LONDON, May 27 The Daily Herald announces that the Prime Minister-elect of France, M. Blum, will appoint Dr. Irene Curie •Toliot, aged 36, daughter of Madame Curie, joint discoverer of radium, as th* first woman Minister in France. Probably she will be appointed UnderSecretary of Education or Health. Dr. Curie Joliot jointly won tho Nobel prize for chemistry last year. The Herald's Paris correspondent says her appointment will be tho prelude to womanhood suffrage in France.

Dr. Irene Curie Joliofc was born in Paris and is the (laughter of the late Professor Pierre Curie and Marie Curie, the joint discoverers of radium. She inherited her parents' scientific gifts, and at the ago of 20 secured her doctor's degree. She then undertook independent researches and in 1930 married her colleague, a young physicist, Dr. Frederick Joliot. Several important scientific discoveries have been made as a result of their work, one of which is the artificial production of radioactive elements. •
