PALESTINE MANDATE
COMMISSION SITTING ITALIAN AS PRESIDENT I '•■-/ ' British "Wireless RUGBY. May 27 The administration of the Palestine mandate is on the agenda for the halfyearly meeting of the League of Nations' Mandates Commission which was -opened at Geneva to-day. The commission re-elected as president the Italian member, the Marchess Theodoli, who is attending in spite of Italy's abstention from League work, since all members of the commission are appointed in their personal capacity and not as representatives of their respective Governments.
REPORTS DENIED OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE British Wireless RUGBY. May 27 An official communique issued in Jerusalem denies that any British soldier has been killed in the disturbances in Palestine. Denial is also given to a report in circulation to the effect that a police patrol had been surrounded by a mob at Gaza and severely beaten.
The communique records sporadic outbreaks of lawlessness in the preceding 24 hours, but the only casualty was the accidental killing of an Arab watchman by an Arab constablo in the village of L3 r dda.
ATTACKED BY SNIPERS
CAMERON HIGHLANDERS JERUSALEM, May 27 A party of Cameron Highlanders to-day, when patrolling the JerusalemNablus highway, was attacked by snipers. The Highlanders returned the fire. British native police were rushed up to assist them and the attackers withdrew. There were no British casualties.
