GOLF IN ENGLAND

EXCITING LADIES' MATCH DOMINION CHAMPION WINS [FROM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT] LONDON. May 9 Miss Jessie Anderson, holder of the New Zealand ladies' golf championship, won a splendid singles match by one hole against Mrs. L. Cheney, at Gleneagles. Miss Diana Fishwick, in her special article to the News Chronicle, says:—

"Incredible scenes were witnessed round the last green, when, after fighting through a splendid match with Mrs. Cheney, Miss Anderson holed her hall from quite eight yards to defeat the American and save Great Britain from losing the day. Hardly had the ball disappeared when an ear-splitting roar was echoed back from the mountains and a mad rush engulfed Jessie Anderson, who reappeared in view on the shoulders of her admirers. "One down from the 12th, Miss Anderson squared at the 16tH, where she played a grand shot from a bunker and was down in 3, Mrs. Cheney taking three putts on a green reached from the tee. The American again needed three putts at the 17th, which was halved. Both reached the last green in three good shots. Mrs. Cheney putted first, laving her bajl stone dead, and then the crowd held its breath while Jessie studied the line. Never was a putt more sweetly rolled up and in."
