THE LEAGUE CODE
SENIOR COMPETITION FIFTH SERIES OF MATCHES RICHMOND TO PLAY NEWTON The fifth series of matches in the senior championship of the Auckland Rugby League will bo played at Carlaw Park to-morrow, when another good afternoon's football is promised. With the championship in snch an interesting stage keen interest will be taken in all four matches. The principal attraction will be between Kichmond, last season's champions, and Newton, which teams have each suffered two defeats to date. Newton, however, revealed fine form last Saturday in disposing of Dovonport, and under the present weather conditions will have a large following. Jts speedy hacks should provide thrilling footbail if they receive a fair share of the ball from the serums. On the other hand, Richmond is now settling down to better combination, as was proved in the second spell last Saturday against jVlarist and should be hard to defeat. JBoth teams will be anxious to retain their positions on the championship ladder, and a fast exhibition is anticipated.
The curtain-raiser between Mount Albert and Miinuknu is also likely to he fast and open. The latter is l improving each week, while Mount Albert is a pound nil-round combination. Each of these teams has also suflorccl two defeats The two leading teums will !>c seen in action on the No. 2 ground. In the chief match Ponsonby will try conclusions with Murist. and ell form should take the honours, owing to its better combination. Murist has been an erratic team and will find the clever P-jnsonby players difficult to contend with. The curtain-raiser will be between Devonport and City, and prospects favour the former. Lower grade competitions will be continued. Following are the tennis:—
