POWER BOARD DISTRICT
WHAKATANE AND OPOTIKI QUESTION OF REPRESENTATION [by teljEgkArn —own correspoxden r] WHAKATANE. Thursday The question of making Whakatane the centre of the Bay of Plenty Powei Board district was raised to-day at a meeting of the Whakatane County Council. It was considered that Whakatane, being more central than Opotiki and having a greater population and greater prospects for future development, should have the central Power Board building there. The chief electrical engineer of the Public Works Department wrote stating that on the basis of the figures now available, the Whakatane County Council would bo entitled to five members on a board, while the Opotiki County and Opotiki Borough would have two and one respectively. It was suggested by the electrical engineer that the representation should be: Whakatane County, four; Opotiki County, two; Opotiki Borough, 1.
It was recommended that the engineer be advised that tho council favoured its being granted five county representatives in the constituent district of the Power Board.
