OPENING OF CHAMPIONSHIP I FERRIER HAS A BYE LONDON, May 25 llain and cold wind prevailed for the opening of tho British amateur golf championship at St. Andrews to-day. The Australian player, James Ferrier, had a bye in the first round. Cyril Tolley played two rounds and eliminated two Americans.
H. G. Bentley, English champion, defeated Stanley Lunt, . 3—l, in tho second round.
