WORK AT THAMES SCHOOL [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] THAMES, Tuesday
The monthly statement of the Thames School of Mines Council, which met last evening, showed that receipts totalled £9l and expenditure £IOB. The chief items in receipts were:—Crushing charges, £47; assays, £l2. The Under-Secretary of the Mines Department advised the granting of £l5O toward the cost of the installation of an amalgamating unit at the school and also toward effecting repairs to certain plant which recently broke down. The director, Mr. H. Crawford, reported that 235 assays had been put through and 21 parcels treated in the battery for a return of 2150z. lldwt.. valued at £936.
REPORTS OF MANAGERS Mount Lyell (Tasmania), fortnight ended May 13.—North Mount Lyell: Tons ex traded. 5178, 1100 ft. level, No. 3S stope rise to 13ft through low-grade ore. Royal Tharsis: Tons extracted. 2442. .West Lyell.; Tons extract-ed, 14.229. Prince Lyell: Tone extracted, 473. Lyell Comstock: Tons ex traded. 4072. No. 4 level. No. 2 mullock pass drive, west end. to 131 ft through mineralised schist and timber. No. 8 level, main crosscut to 16ft through mineralised schist. No. 1 deep hole drill to 138 ft. from end main crosscut. Fair grade ore between lift and 72ft, interspersed by several bands low-grade material: remaining distance through copper bearing schist; main shaft opening out set completed, laying' plat in progress. Reduction works: "Furnace in blast throughout period: 7034 tons refinery anodes made during current year. Concentrator: Mill operated 336 hours and treated 24,060 tons ore, producing 1694 tons concentrate*.-" Copper refinery: Tank house in operation throughout fortnight, 497 tons cathode copper being produced for period. Total for current year 7953 ton».
