RISING PRICES
Sir, —After an election campaign which especially featured "Plenty for All" or "Something for Nothing," we have had our daily dose of the Labour Government's good "intentions." It is high time we took stock of some of its "actions." The Wheat Growers' Association congratulates the Government on raising the price of wheat. The New Zealand Bakers' Association does likewise on the stabilising of the price of bread. But what of the consumer? And especially the poorer people who now have to pay a higher price for the day-old loaf? Small goods, cakes, etc., until this week were Is per dozen —now they are Is 2d per dozen. Timber is rising in sympathy with higher production costs. There are many other indications that undue interference with trading conditions is starting the unequal race to catch up on rising costs. The scratch man (wage earner) will be a poor last. Is this the price the working man must pay for putting in a Socialistic Labour Government, which enshrouded its policy in a humanitarian gospel of "Plenty for All"? Wage Eaeneb.
