TRAFFIC CONGESTION
BUSY HAMILTON STREET TRAIN CAUSES DELAY [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Sunday Exceptionally large crowds visited Hamilton yesterday, attracted by the races at Te Rapa and tho presentation of Colours to the Waikato Regiment, a ceremony which took place today. Trains from Auckland, Te Kuiti and Waikato towns carried over 600 passengers to Te Rapa, a greater number than has been taken by train to the Waikato races for seven years. Of the number mentioned, 395 travelled from Auckland.
The motor traffic firing the morning was abnormal. Four constables, specially brought from Auckland, were engaged on point duty in Victoria Street and rendered excellent service in controlling vehicular traffic. A lengthy hold-up occurred when a train of 60 trucks occupied five minutes to pass over tho Victoria Streot crossing. The majority of the cars were proceeding to the race meeting and for the whole length of the street cars two and three deep were delayed. Over 20 minutes elapsed after the passing of the trajn before the traffic was got moving again at the normal pace.
