WARSHIPS' MOVEMENTS
CRUISES IN THE PACIFIC ITINERARIES OF SLOOPS On an extended cruise to the islands of the Pacific, the Imperial sloopsWellington and Leith will leave Auckland 011 June 17. They will return early in October. The Wellington's first port of call will be Lautoka, Fiji, where bombardment practice will be held. The sloop is scheduled to arrive at Suva on June 29 and to leave on July 4 for Niuafoou and Apia, Samoa. Twenty days will be spent at Samoan ports and in the Tokelau Group, and a service call paid to the Upolu lighthouse Rarotonga will be reached on July 31. Other places of call will include Bora Bora, Papeete, Moorea, Christmas Island, Fanning Island, Pago Pago, American Samoa and Tonga. The Leith will first call at Tongan ports and will then proceed to Suva, where she is expected to arrive on July 1. Subsequently, she will call.at Ocean Island, the Phoenix Group, Noumea, Norfolk Island and various outposts before returning to the Dominion.
Mine-sweeping practices in the Hauraki Gulf will be carried out this week by both the Wellington and the Leith in conjunction with the mine-sweeper Wakakura. The sloops will leave the naval base at Devon port this morning and will return on Friday.
