HARRIER RACING

COMBINED CLUBS' EVENT The Lynndale and Calliope Harrier Clubs joined forces in a nine-mile run from the Avondale Racecourse on Saturday. The course led across the Titirangi golf links to Green Bay, and from there to Blockhouse Bay. The trail then led back to the racecourse across country and roads. A good muster of runners from both clubs was present and three packs were formed. The intermediate group ran well and was first, home. In this pack Hoolihan and Hall, of Calliope, ran well, while Price and Fowlds, of Lynndale. were prominent. In the fast pack Crompton and Rogers showed a return to form. Drummond aud Anibleo. of Calliope, and Darbyshire, McClatchy and Cameron, of Lynndale, led the slow pack home. It was a hard run over arduous country. PRESBYTERIAN CLUB A difficult coursti was followed by 35 members of the Presbyterian Bible Claßs Harrier Club on Saturday afternoon. Leaving the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Dalton. Rewi Road, Epsom, the trail skirted the Manukau Harbour to the back of the Hillsborough Cemetery. Hillsborough Road was then followed back to the finish by the slower packs, the fast pack covering an extra two miles in the direction of Mount Roskill. Devitt, who led the slow pack, should be seen among the faster men in the next few weeks. In the intermediate pack Young, who has led it for a considerable time, will run with one or two others in the fast pack. Hansen and Gladding also showed to advantage. WESLEY CLUB The Wesley Harrier Club held an excellent run from the Mount Albert Methodist Church on Saturday. The 35 member who attended were divided into three packs, which followed a trail of approximately five miles, embracing the Mount Albert and Avondale districts. In the slow pack Grocotte and Razey showed promising form, while C. Moore and Christopher kept well up in the intermediate pack. Russell. Chappell and Stewart were outstanding among the fastei members. UNIVERSITY CLUB The Auckland University College Harrici Club held a road and cross-country run over seven miles from Mission Bay on Saturday. The 21 runners were divided into three packs, each man taking turns at pacing over a mile. Placings in a sprint for the Kohn Cup were as follows Mackenzie, 12yds, 1; Graham, 12yds, 2; Tyson, 12yds. 3; Maxwell, scr, 4; Stephenson, Iyd, 5; Bagrie. 12yds, 0. TECHNICAL CLUB The Technical Athletic Club held a harrier run on Saturday from the home of Mr. and Mis T. M. Wilson, Mount Smart Road, Onehunga. There was a good attendance of runners, who broke up into three packs under the whistles of T. M. Wilson, j. Mortimer and A. W. White, A course of some miles was followed leading toward Penrose, then around One Tree Hill and back to the starting point. In the slow pack Tweedie, J. S. Nicholson, Adams and Wilshere showed up. Gates, Ensor and Brown ran well in the intermediate pack, while Nicholson McCarthy, Harding and Ohms showed up in the fast pack. Results v.-ere as follows :

CALLIOPE CLUB Members of the Calliope Harrier Club not taking part in the combined run with the Lynndale Club held a club run at Northcote over a distance of about five miles on Saturday. L. J Lanigan, deputy-captain set a good pace, and most of the runners, particularly the new men, finished well. The club will hold its first race of tho season next week. Tho event will take the form of a handicap relay race from Devonport to Birkenhead, the successful team to hold the E. J. Osborne Cup for one year. J. ho distance is 10 miles and, with each man running two miles and a-half, a fast pace should be maintained. The relays have bf en decided upon as follows:—Devonport Wharf to Evei sleigh Road, Eversleigh o oa i , to Shakespeare Rood, Shakespeare Koad to Glenfield post office, and Glenfield post office to the finish in Glenfield Road Birkenhead.
