GOOD EXHIBITION
grammar and university The brightest game this season was that in which Grammar Old Boys beat University by one goal. In the first half both teams were evenly matched, but Grammar had slightly the better of the second half. However, clever work by Henderson, the University goalkeeper, spoiled several Grammar attacks. To some extent the game was marred by hard hitting, and aa the ground was soft there was a tendency for the ball to rise. / In the vigorous opening stages there w&b little to choose between the teams and the play travelled up and down the field at a great rate. The first spectacular movement came when H. Jones cleared to Houghton, •who went through alone, only to be stopped by Henderson. Early in the second half Grammar broke thrgugh and gained the circle twice. The first attack was beaten off by Henderson, but in the second I. Boss scored with a fine angle shot from the light. Good work by H. Jones and Robinson kept University out during one or two raids, and Grammar again returned to the attack, but weakness in the circle, combined with some brilliant saves by Henderson. prevented further scoring. Tha Grammar forwards threw the ball about well and showed belter combination than the opposing line. Work was fairiy -evenly distributed among them, although Eoughton and Twigden were sliehtly more prominent than the others. Lawry and Harriott were the most prominent of the halves, although Herriott was inclined to indu.ge in wild hitting at times. Jones, at fullback /put in some/fine clearing shots, and was well supported by Robinson. In the. University forwards A. Broun and H Lawry were the better of the inside men. while Roberts put in some fast runs down the left. The other wing. Fraser. had an off day The University backs were not as impressive .as those of Grammar,, some of Hoghen's strokes not being very clean. When the ball did pass them, however, it was well stopped by Henderson in goal. Messrs. *H. Watts and A. Rivers were nmpixes. '
