The assistant engineer of the Public Works Department wrote advising that the Main Highways Board was arranging for the preparation of plans for a modern structure, with an opening span. The old plans drawn in 1923 would not suit.
Tho Automobile Association (Auckland) also wrote stating that it was anxious to see through road connection to Thames as early as possible, and suggesting that the council should approach tho Main Highways Board with a view to obtaining a subsidy. The association commented that motorists had been subjected to a heavy toll in addition to taxes, and suggested that the council should reduce the ferry charges. Mr. W. E. Hale moved that the association be informed that, owing to the projected increase in operating costs, the council could not reduce the ferry charges. He said it might be necessary to increase them.
