CLASSIC CLUB
INTERESTING PROGRAMME ,A very delightful programme of classical music was presented at the Classic Club's second meeting of the season, held on Tuesday night. The president, Dr. S. K. Phillips, presided, and made explanatory remarks in regard to individual items. The programme comprised: "On My Shepherd 1 Rely" (Bach), "As When a Dove" (Handel), "Night," "The Rosebud," and "Glorinna" (Mallinson), rendered by Miss Winifred Hill; contralto solos, "Les Cloches" (Debussy), "Les Borceaux" (Faure), "Pastourello" (Augin), "Sailing Homeward" (Giblis), "Two September Songs" (Quilter), sung by Miss Irene Rich; "Nina" (Pcrgoleai), "Faithless as Fair" (Scarlatti), and "Pastoral" (Veracini) sung by Miss Thora Davidson. Mr. ,T. T. Gibson contributed "Litanei," "Der Doppelgaenger" (Schubert), "Passing By" (Purcell), "Silent Worship" (Handel-Sommervell). "I Do Confess" (Lawes), and Mr. Leslie Russell sang "Believe Me if All," "Open the Door Softly," "The Minstrel Boy" (Moore), "The ""Cloths of Heaven" (Dunhill), "Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal" (Quilter). Pianoforte solos "Ballade in A Flat" (Chopin), and two modern numbers, "Lullaby" and "Apple Blossom Time" (Bax), were rendered by Miss Joyce Billing and Mrs. Maud Lysaght. An instrumental trio comprising Miss Daphne Higham (violin), Miss Betty Fenton ('cello) and Mrs. Maud Lysaght (piano) contributed three most enjoyable numbers "Andante" from Trio No. 1 and "Minuet" and "Saltarello" <F. Bridge). At the conclusion of the programme supper was served by lady members of the club.
