CADETS' TRAINING
FOUE DATS AT DOMAIN; TECHNICAL COLLEGE BOYB WIDE RANGE OF WORK Four days' consolidated military training by the 900 cadets from th Seddon Memorial Technical College will conclude at the Domain to-day, Tuesday the have been carrying om training of a varied and interesting nature that has included Vickers and Lewis gun work, field engineering signalling, communication drill, cal recreation exercises, musketry and range practice, field ambulance and first aid work, platoon, company and cere, monial drill and artillery exercises with a battery of 3.7 howitzer field similar to the pack guns used for moun' tain work in Iridia.
. Captain H. McD. Scott, officer com manding the college battalion, is command and he has associated with him ten school officers, the Area Officer Captain R. S. Judson, V.C., and eight instructors from the New Zealand P er manent Staff and the Iloyal New Ze a " land Artillery.
In addition to morse, semaphore and flag drill, the signal section of the battali on has also received instruction i n the use of the Lucas daylight signalling lamp and the heliograph. Great interest was taken by the senior cadets in morse key'work.
Considerable skill was shown by the , boys in the field engineers' section who constructed with lashed spars and squared timber a field surveyor's loofc. out, of the type used when observations are difficult to secure in thickly wooded country. The structure was about 14ft in height. ] \
While the main" body of the battalion has been in training at the Domain, a company has proceeded to Penrose by train each morning for the carrying out of musketry and gun work. All sections have made excellent progress during the three days, the boys appreciating the space at their disposal at the Domain after using the comparatively cramped-parade ground at the Technical College.
Keen satisfaction with the work being done at the Domain was expressed by Major H. D. McHugh, M.C., staif c-ffieer in charge of the No. 1. .Regimental District, when he made a visit of-inspec-tion yesterday. Appreciation of the cooperation secured from the Auckland City Council in connection with the use of the Domain was expressed by Captain J udson.
