OSTEND ROAD BOARD
IMPROVEMENT IN FINANCES DISTRICT NURSE WANTED The annual meeting of ratepayers of the Ostend (Waiheke Island) Road District was held at the board's office 'in Auckland on Wednesday night, Mr. F. H. Brown, chairman of the board, presiding over a fair attendance. In his report, the chairman said the financial position of the board was improving and in the year ended March 31 last the bank overdraft had been reduced from £125 to £4l. Outstanding rates amounted to £424, a decrease of about £4O for the year. Every effort had been made to collect .arrears and in many instances defaulting ratepayers were paying a few shillings off each month.
A motion was passed that the board should make immediate representations to the Auckland Hospital Board for the services of a fully qualified district nurse at Ostend. The problem of traffic control at Ostend during holiday periods and the advisability of vappointing a uniformed inspector were discussed. The matter was left in the hands of the board. A Resolution was carried expressing disapproval of the removal of the shelter shed, which was provided by public subscription, on Ostend Wharf.
Votes were passed in appreciation of the services of the chairman and members of the board, tho clerk, Mr. G. L. Gladding, and the representative of the St. .John 'Ambulance Brigade 011 Waiheke Island, Mr. C. Butler.
