WAIKATO TROTS

SATURDAY'S PROSPECTS FIELDS IN CHIEF EVENTS CHANCES OF NERVE'S LAST BY ABAYDOS Very fine acceptances have been received for the Waikato Trotting Club's Winter Meeting on Saturday, and there is ample material to provide keen racing. The fields in the principal events, the President's Handicap and the To Kowhai Handicap, are very similar to those in the chief races at Cambridge last Saturday, and there is another good field in the Farewell Handicap, which is run in saddle. Cambridge form may be a good guide in most of the events, but, with the prospect of better track conditions, some horses may show improvement, Nervio's Last, off the limit, has very good prospects in the President s Handicap, two miles, and he should account for Luminate, who did not impress last week, although he marred his chances by refusing to go away correctly. Nervio's Last was having his first race at two miles and made a. creditable showing. Ho was decisively beaten by King's Play, but as he should derive benefit from the race lie should take a good deal of beating. Our McKinney is making steady progress as a stayer, but may be held safely by Winaway, who is likely to do better than at Cambridge, where she finished fourth. On a firmer track Winaway should go a solid race. Social Pest has lio form this season, but on last season's displays ho is a possibility. He won his races at the right end, which suggests staying ability. King's Play in Form

Our George, who was a useful pacer in the South Island a couple of jcars ago, lias not clone much racing of late, although he has shown some form at sports and non-totalisator meetings in the province during the last few months. If he returns to his best, Our George may effect a surprise. Wiushow is on the upgrade and after her two good efforts at Cambridge is likely to find a good deal of support. Winshow was running on at the finish of the Winter Handicap last week and she should perform creditably, as she stays rather well. King's Play, who won comfortably at Cambridge, should again race prominently, even though he is back on 36yds. He proved himself a genuine staver, and was the only one who could show any dash at the finish in the feoft ground. No matter what the conditions may be on Saturday, King's Play should be in strong demand. The backmarker Rockella was not at home in the heavy going at Cambridge and he failed to show anything like the form that won him the Lvans Challenge Cup on the West Coast circuit. Under improved conditions he is capable of a sound effort. The race is full of possibilities, but investors may prefer King's Play, Nervic's Last and Rockella.

Good Sprint Field All tl 10 horses in the Presidents Handicap are also listed for tho To Kouhai Handicap and their earlier display should give a guide on their prospects in tho sprint. However, newcomers like Star Pronto, Parochial and Kewpie's Bond should make matters decidedly interesting for the opposition. Star Pronto is racing consistently, but without much luck, but in this class lie cannot afford to lose ground at the start. If he goes smoothly, he is capabio of efl'octing a surprise. Parochial is in good condition anil likely to take beating, while the distance should suit Kewpie's Bond. She failed at two miles last Saturday, but her previous good form suggests bright prospects hero. Of the others, Winaway makes a strong appeal, and she should bo the most difficult to beat. She has improved with racing and is in excellent condition. Winshow, who won well at the distance at Cambridge, should form one of the dangerous division. She has made a lot of progress of late and may not yet have reached the limit of her powers. If reserved, Nervie's Last would probably win, but a hard race earlier may be against him. Kockella is a fine sprinter and should keep those in front of him busy. Some who may find favour are Winaway, Winshow, Parochial and Kockella. The Saddle Horses A great deal of interest will bo taken in the Farewell Handicap, a mile saddle race, for which there are many promising candidates. Home Brew, who has returned to form, should go well off the limit, while Cogent is smart and Tinokaha is a possibility. Mr. Guy is a likely one, although he has not won for some time. Norrie Bock should be improved by his race last Saturday. Derby Fame is a smart horse, and if he takes after his sire, Nelson Fame, should go well in saddle. Bismuth won nicely at Epsom in February and is a possibility, while Cherrill has sufficient speed to win if she goes solidly. Muriel Bond is a smart sprinter, and if she can accustom herself to weight-carrying should be dangerous. General Sarsfield raced prominently in saddle at the last Hamilton meeting and later won at Thames. He showed useful form at Cambridge and should bo improved. Tryment has shaped particularly well in saddle, and in three starts has a first and two seconds to her credit. She showed herself to be in form when she won nicely at Cambridge last week. Fancies may take a wide range, and those to attract most attention . may be General Sarsfield, Tryment, Muriel Bond and Cherrill. BLENHEIM TROTS PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY The Marlborough Trotting Club's Annual Meeting will be held at Blenheim to-day, and, although the fields aro not very large, racing should be interesting.
