JOVIALITY IMPRESSIVE CONTACT MAKES FRIENDS FURTHER MOUNTS ANNOUNCED [by tklkgrafh—OWN correspondent] HAWERA, Wednesday Candidates for tho Egmont meeting were given their final galloping and schooling at Hawera this morning. Fast work was done on the outside of tho course proper. A strong following wind made tho times for sprint journeys rather fast. St. Clara sprinted three furlongs in 39 l-ss. Onewhetu, assisted by Passing Fancy over the early part and by Glenthawn in tho latter stages, covered seven furlongs in 1.35. Onewhetu worked freely. Leo Colossus traversed six furlongs in 1.22. Boughal and Orac shaped attractively to register 1.6 for five furlongs, with Boughal a length to tho good at the finish. Brigadoro gave a fast, clean display over a round of the training hurdles. Joviality and Do Trop went well to cover half a mile in 50 3-ss. Joviality was doing the better at tho close and shajied impressively. Contact gained many admirers by the dashing stylo in which ho cleared a couple of tho training hurdles. Biorni sprinted three furlongs very smartly in 37 3-os. Boomerang loft half a mile behind in 51s. Alchemic was not extended to run five furlongs in 1.91. Arctic Star covered a mile at a working gallop. Ephialtes was sent o'ut to school over the steeplechase course. After jumping a brush fence carefully lie baulked at the post and rails. On his being taken back, he again refused to jump, and it was not until his fifth attempt that he finally scrambled over. Ho was not persevered with further. Prostration pleased by running six furlongs comfortably in 1.19 4-5. Slippery sprinted half a mile in 51 l-ss. Valpeen arrived last night and was doing light work this morning. Although a trifle robust, he looks in great form and may be more forward than is generally thought. Other visitors working were Sir Tommy, Trouvaille, Cappy, Royal Feast and Flammarion.
