CHANGING LONDON
'ADELPHI BUILDING PLAN £500,000 PROJECT IN HAND A large modern building, costing between £500,000 and £600,000, will replace the historic Adam block of the 'Adelphi estate, between the Strand and .the Embankment, London. Demolition tof the famous buildings erected by the [Adam brothers in the eighteenth cenjfcury was to begin recently. The fittings JjTill be auctioned. A project to move Charing Cross Hospital to the site has been abandoned because of the cost. The land is now Available for a building which will contain offices and shops on the Adam' Street, John Street, and Robert Street frontages; many flats, the majority of which will have river views; and extensive garages, with entrances jjrobably from the upper as well as from the Embankment level. There will probably be a new Adelphi Terrace, 40ft. ,wid"e, occupying about the same position as the present Terrace. The new tbuilding will rise to about 100 ft. above the level of Adelphi Terrace.
