CANCER CAMPAIGN
WORK IN AUCKLAND PROGRESS IN PAST YEAR A total of 2068 consultations from April, 1935, to March this year, is recorded in a report of the activities of the consultation committee of the honorary staff of the Auckland Hospital for the study of cancer cases. The report will be submitted to the annual meeting of the Auckland division of the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society to-morrow. The committee comprises Dr. W. Gilmour, chairman, Dr. N. McDougall, vice-chairman, Mr. K. Mackenzie, Mr. Donald McKenzie, Mr. Eisdell Moore, Mr. F. Webster and Dr. H. W. Wilson. A summary of the work of the committee reveals that 449 new cases wore seen during the year, and that of these 3G5 were cases of malignant disease. At the end of the period there were on the books 938 cases of malignant disease, both new and old. Patients who had died during the year from cancer or a complication directly attributable to it totalled 213, including 127 new cases seen in the current year, who had died at the end of the period. Cancer cases dying of intercurrent diseases during the year numbered 28, and of these 22 were symptom-free, the remaining six having malignant disease present. Patients lost sight of, those on whom there had not been a report for 12 months or moro, numbered 53. The report states that the committee had decided to exclude from future reports 38 cases which had been lost sight of for several years. Nine skin cases which had been symptom-free for more than five years were considered as cured, and' would not appear in future records.
