AID FOR AIRMEN
identifying a town PAINTING NAME ON BUILDING A scheme that will be welcomed by aviators, to paint the name of the town on a conspicuous building, is being considered by the Matamata Borough Council. The council has requested the opinion of the Auckland Aero Club before., undertaking the work. "In a recent visit to this town the airman Mr. W. M. O'Hara commented on the lack of signs ,by which to distinguish tho diflerent towns, and he suggested that if the name of each to\vn was painted on the roof of some building it would considerably facilitate matters when pilots were in doubt as to the locality they were Hying over, more especially in bad WGather, states a letter received by the club from the town cler.k of Matamata. " The council has in view a scheme for painting the name ' Matamata ' on the tangerine roof oi the Rugby football shed in Bedford Park, in large letters of aluminium paint, with a black edge, and your opinion on this matter would be valued." The committee of tho Auckland Aero Club considers that the borough council is to be heartily congratulated on exhibiting such signs of air-mindedness. In a letter to the council, Mr. L. W. Swan/ secretary of the club, has expressed the opinion that tho colourscheme chosen is a very good one, and lias suggested that the black edging of the lettering should be made fairly distinctive.
