MODERN GAS COOKERS

The concert chamber of the lown Hall was again filled with a large gathering of people yesterday afternoon and last night, when Mr. Leonard Hazel, overseas manager and expert demonstrator for Radiation, Limited, London, explained the working of the New World and the Champion gas cookers. An appetising dinner, comprising a roast of beef, with potatoes and fresh green peas, a chicken, liver and bacon rolls and an egg custard, were cooked while Mr. Hazel was explaining the various points of advantage of the New World cooker. The door of the oven was not opened during the period of cooking, which was one hour, and at the end of that time a perfectly-cooked six-course meal was to be seen. It was explained by Mr. Hazel that the automatic system was the result of 75 years' experience in the manufacture of gas appliances. The regulo was the watchdog of the oven and relieved the cook of the most tedious part of her work, while the two zones of temperature in the oven and its steam-rich atmosphere wore other attractive features which should appeal to the efficient cook. A demonstration of pastry-makinc; and the baking of a coffee and walnut cake and small cakes was given by Mrs. Mann, demonstrator for the Auckland Gas Company. The demonstrations by Mr. Hazel will be continued this afternoon and evening.
