DOMINION'S ATTRACTIONS

INTEREST OF AUSTRALIANS INTERCHANGE OF VISITS [by telegraph OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Increasing interest is being taken by Australians in New Zealand's tourist attractions, Mr. H. M. Chrystall, a member of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, which is interesting itself in the development of the South Island tourist trade, said on his return from a business v7sit to Australia. Australian organisations interested in the tourist trade were looking for new places to send their clients, said Mr. Chrystall. The big shipping companies were very keen to open new tours, and lie hoped that the South Island would soon be visited by tourist liners. He had been impressed by the work being done by* the Sydney Travel League, the members of which were representatives of services with a financial interest in the tourist traffic. They met regularly and discussed matters relevant to their work, such as possible avenues of improvement. Mr. Chrystall said he had thought of trying to form a similar body in Christcburch. As a member of a party of New Zealanders taken to Australia to study various aspects of Australian industrial life, Mr. Chrystall, who is a civil engineer, visited the Broken Hill Proprietary's steel works at Newcastle, lie had met executive members of the firm and had found that they were earnest in their desire to encourage such visits as he and the other members of the party were making. They thought there should be more organised visits of New Zealanders to Australia, and of Australians to New Zealand. Visits could do much to improve the trade relations between the two countries. Mr. Chrystall said that excellent work was being done by the New Zealand Government Tourist Department. Tourist authorities whom ho had met in Sydney had said no other tourist organisation in the world was issuing better publicity. He was also much impressed by the work being done by Mr. W. Taylor in Sydney. He had been responsible for a tremendous increase in the tourist business, and had been most enterprising in starting new inquiries.
